The Swift Current Broncos announced on Tuesday that coach Devan Praught was suspended indefinitely after he allegedly violated the WHL standards of conduct. The suspension is pending an investigation, with the WHL Security Network currently reviewing the matter.
According to the official release by the Broncos, the suspension comes as the result of an alleged on-ice incident that occurred during team practice on Nov. 13. No additional details were given, and the team said it will have no further comment at this time.
While Praught is under investigation, Broncos assistant coach Taras McEwen will assume the club's head coaching duties.
Praught is now the second WHL coach to be suspended for violating the Western Hockey League standards of conduct this season. Wenatchee Wild coach Kevin Constantine was suspended indefinitely on Oct. 4 for what was labelled as "derogatory comments of a discriminatory nature." Constantine can return to the WHL after an approval process, with him eligible to apply to be reinstated in 2025 at the earliest. Pending the results of this investigation, Praught may be in line for a similar punishment.
The Broncos currently have a 9-9-1-0 record for 19 points, which ranks them ninth of 11 teams in the WHL's Western Conference.
