Wild Place Victor Rask on Waivers

The Minnesota Wild have placed Victor Rask on waivers, possibly ending a disappointing tenure after parts of four seasons.

The Minnesota Wild are placing a big chunk of change on the waiver wire this afternoon.

On Tuesday, multiple sources reported that the Wild have placed forward Victor Rask on waivers, possibly ending the 28-year-old's tenure in Minnesota after parts of four seasons spent in the Twin Cities.

Rask was acquired by the Wild via trade back in January of 2019 in an effort to fortify the team's offence, with then-GM Paul Fenton flipping winger Nino Niederreiter to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange. The two players went on to forge nearly polar opposite paths with their new respective teams, as Neidereiter proceeded to score at a 20-goal pace for the Hurricanes en route to multiple postseason appearances, while Rask's offensive production fell off a cliff.

In 141 games with the Wild, Rask sits with just 21 total goals and 49 points, including just 4 goals and 10 points in 21 games this season. For a player making $4 million per year, that simply isn't good enough -- especially when contrasting it to the totals of the player he was dealt for.

A free agent at the end of the season, Rask's days in Minnesota were already numbered. Now, he's potentially gone for good.
