The Minnesota Wild have signed winger Ryan Hartman to a three-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $4 million.
It's been a busy preseason in the Twin Cities.
The Minnesota Wild locked in another key forward on Friday, agreeing to terms with winger Ryan Hartman on a three-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $4 million.
The deal ties Hartman to Minnesota through the 2026-27 season and will kick in at the start of 2024-25, with Hartman having one year left on his current contract at a cap hit of $1.7 million.
If Hartman can return to his 2021-22 form, then this deal will look like a winner. Hartman broke out in a big way that season, racking up a career-best 34 goals and 31 assists for 65 points in 82 games while his average nightly ice time skyrocketed above 18 minutes. Last season, however, was a bit more of a challenge for the 29-year-old, as Hartman battled injuries that held him to 59 games in which he managed 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points with an average nightly workload of just over 16 minutes.
With a full summer of recovery under his belt, perhaps Hartman can flip the switch back into the 30-goal guy that earned him this deal and continue his role as a major producer in the Wild's top-six. They'll certainly need him to be, as the club will still have nearly $15 million in dead cap taken up thanks to the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter buyouts looming over them the year his new extension kicks in.
