Updated on June 13: And then there were six.
Utah's NHL franchise, owned by Smith Entertainment Group, released its second round of voting for the team nickname.
More than 520,000 voters participated in the first round of voting for NHL Utah's team name, and six names accounted for 60 percent of the total vote. Those six names are all included in the second voting pool, which is open until June 20.
Here are the names in the same order as the poll:
The first round of voting featured 20 names. These are the names that missed the cut:
In the first round, the Blizzard name appeared without the 's' at the end. That changed early in the second round of voting, but it's been changed back to Blizzard.
Once the franchise decides on the team name, it will craft the logo, mascot, jerseys and the rest of their brand to debut for the 2025-26 NHL season. The players will instead wear jerseys that display "UTAH" in 2024-25.
Last weekend, the same group that filed applications on the 20 team names with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Uyte LLC, applied for trademarks for eight logos and wordmarks, according to Ryan Miller of KSL.com.
While all the trademarked logos and wordmarks feature at least black and white, four also feature a type of glacier blue shade, similar to the shade the former WHL Kootenay Ice and Winnipeg Ice had with their Yeti logo.
The Smith Entertainment Group said it will announce details on the final steps of the name selection process in the coming months.
