Anaheim is giving one of its most dynamic young defensemen another look at the NHL level, recalling Tristan Luneau from the San Diego Gulls as his strong season continues to demand attention.
At just 22 years old, Luneau has already seen limited NHL action, appearing in 13 career games with Anaheim and recording three points. His brief stint last season offered a glimpse of his offensive instincts, highlighted by a multi-point performance against Washington on Nov. 30, 2023—an outing that included his first NHL goal.
This call-up comes on the heels of a highly productive campaign in the American Hockey League. Luneau has emerged as a cornerstone for San Diego, posting 41 points (10 goals, 31 assists) in 69 games while setting a new personal best in goals. He has been the engine of the Gulls’ blue line, leading all defensemen on the team in points, assists, and shots on goal.
Since the All-Star break, his game has reached another level. Luneau has piled up 27 points in 25 contests during that stretch, leading all AHL defensemen in scoring and placing himself among the league’s most productive players overall—regardless of position.
Originally selected 53rd overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, Luneau’s trajectory has been steadily upward. He followed a standout rookie AHL season—where he totaled 52 points and earned All-Rookie Team honors—with an even more complete and assertive sophomore campaign. Across 134 career AHL games, he has compiled 95 points, numbers that place him among the most productive defensemen in the league over the past two seasons.
