Ducks News: Anaheim Builds Towards Contention With New Draft Picks

The NHL Draft has concluded. The Anaheim Ducks held nine picks in the draft and brought on multiple players that should help them going forward. The goal is to get back to relevancy and that starts with building back up. Check out all the draft picks below:

Round 1, pick 2: Center Leo Carlsson Örebro HK of the Swedish Hockey League

Round 2, pick 33: Winger Nico Myatovic from the Seattle Thunderbirds

Round 2, pick 59: Center Carey Terrance from the Erie Otters

Round 2, pick 60: Goalie Damian Clara from Farjestad BK

Round 3, pick 65: Right wing Coulson Pitre from Flint

Round 3, pick 85:Lleft wing Yegor Sidorov from the Saskatoon Blades

Round 4, pick 97: Defenseman Konnor Smith from the Peterborough Petes

Round 5, pick 129: Defenseman Rodwin Dionicio from the Windsor Spitfires

Round 6, pick 161: Defenseman Vojtech Port from the Edmonton Oil Kings

Each one of these picks represents change for Anaheim. As the team starts to build their roster out, the idea is to bring a new sense of energy. The Ducks showed that they valued size and versatility within this draft class.

The team may have gotten their future goalie with the pick of Clara. He is 6-foot-6 which gives him great size for the position. Clara is also very technical in his approach which should bode well in the NHL. Anaheim came into the draft with a real need at goalie long-term and Clara gives them a very solid option going forward.

General Manager Pat Verbeek and company had a goal in mind and executed it well. This class could be the start to the Ducks getting back towards the top of the NHL. They have missed the postseason each of the last five seasons but now there is reason for hope in Orange County.

New head coach Greg Cronin will have plenty of talent to work with and even if most of these players don't see the NHL next season, the pipeline of talent for Anaheim is there. The long-game sustainability is in play but once it's reached, Anaheim could see fruitful success at the highest level.
