What a get for Anaheim!
The Anaheim Ducks made a splash in free agency, signing former Tampa Bay Lightning wing Alex Killorn to a major contract. The deal is for four-years, worth $25 million and has an annual value of $6.25 million per year. This signals that the Ducks mean business this offseason and have decided to get aggressive in their rebuild.
Anaheim was looking to upgrade their offensive scoring this season and bringing in a player the caliber as Killorn will do just that. He set career-highs last season for Tampa Bay, scoring 27 goals and also putting up 37 assists. Killorn was also very durable for the Bolts, appearing in all 82 regular season games for the sixth time in his career.
His experience winning multiple Stanley Cups with the Bolts will help the Ducks start building back to contention. He should be able to mentor the young Anaheim players and provides a real scoring option as well.
This offseason was critical for the Ducks and many wondered how Anaheim would play things. But General Manager Pat Verbeek decided to be aggressive and has made some power moves so far.
On top of this move, the Ducks added in veteran defenseman Radko Gudas into the mix from the Florida Panthers.
Anaheim brought in some nice veteran pieces that can still provide value on the ice. They aren't done yet and it should be a fun season to watch out in Orange County.
