When the Anaheim Ducks selected Leo Carlsson second overall, it came as a surprise to some around the league. But Anaheim General Manager zeroed in on Carlsson from the start and was delighted when he finally got to call his name on the podium.

Carlsson brings in a new era of Ducks hockey as the team is looking to rebuild their franchise from the bottom up. They have a ton of young talent on the roster and are ready to get back to being competitive in the NHL. Carlsson will be one of the cornerstones for that rebuild, and he is already being praised by members of the organization.

San Diego Gulls, the Anaheim minor league affiliate, head coach Matt Mcllvane has spent time with Carlsson at the Ducks Development Camp recently and had some strong words to say about the young center.

This speaks volumes about how Carlsson is as a player and person. It directly correlates to what Verbeek has said about the young player and should have Ducks fans very happy. Carlsson is just 18 years old, so for him to be seeking feedback from the coaches at the developmental camp is impressive.

He is going to headline this Ducks roster for years to come with his skillset. He is a brilliant player with a high IQ and has the ability to make his teammates better. Carlsson should play well alongside other young players such as Trevor Zegras and Troy Terry.

The Ducks seem to have gotten a good one in Carlsson, and his growth will be imperative to the success of this franchise moving forward.
