His return will be a welcomed sight on both sides of the ice.
Over the last few years, the Anaheim Ducks have put together a solid group of young players. The team hasn’t reached the postseason since 2018, so they have had the chance to draft early in the rounds of the NHL Draft.
They have gone many different ways with their selections as they try to put together an all-around roster. But like any group of young prospects, some rise to the top.
One of those has been defenseman Jamie Drysdale, who has made a name for himself on the Anaheim blueline. Drysdale has only been in the league for three seasons and really only played one full year. He was limited to just eight games last season due to injury, but his return to the lineup will be very welcomed when the new year opens.
“Drysdale will be the primary offensive threat on the right side of the defense and his shot – while not the strongest weapon in his arsenal – will be welcomed on the power play.”
Drysdale is still only 21 years old, so he still has plenty of room to grow his game. This should be a scary thought for opponents, as he was very good when he was on the ice. During the 2021-2022 season, Drysdale put up four goals and 28 assists on offense, giving Anaheim a good option to use.
His ability to add a scoring threat should help this Ducks offense that was putrid last season. Defenses will have to account for him at all times, opening things up for other players.
“Being able to thread it through defenders to the opposing net is something that can be a focal point, allowing teammates to anticipate and jump on potential rebounds. His defensive game is still evolving, and continued growth along with staying healthy should be the goal.”
With new head coach Greg Cronin now in the mix, expect Drysdale to improve even more. Cronin is known for being a developmental coach who has the ability to get the most out of his players.
It should be a great year for Drysdale as he looks to put his injuries behind him. He wants to help the team win in whatever way he can, and his outlook looks extremely bright for this year.
