It may be time for a change in Anaheim.

Veteran goaltender John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks has let the team know that he would like to be traded. It has been brewing for a few years now as the Ducks haven't reached the postseason since 2018 and have been on a downward spiral since.

It all culminated with the team owning the worst record in the NHL this past season and Gibson finally having enough of the losing. Gibson made the request to the team last month according to a report from the Daily Faceoff.

Gibson has let the Ducks know that after 10 seasons, he is ready for a change of scenery. With little defensive support, Gibson was tagged with the worst statistical season of his career. Amazingly, Gibson’s save percentage was still exactly league average (.899), which is an indication of how much game he has left.

Gibson still has four years left on his contract, which could be enticing to some team interested in acquiring his services. However, his price tag is $6.4 million a season and it remains unknown if a team is willing to commit that much money for him. The tag to trade for him would be sky high as well as the Ducks don't have many better options and still consider him to be playing at a high level.

Gibson joined the team in 2014 and has been crucial to their success since. There have been times where he was the only bright spot out on the ice during these last few seasons. Only time will tell if Gibson is moved but his time in Southern California seems to be coming ever closer to the finish line.

He will draw interest from teams this offseason and maybe this is the move that helps jumpstart the winning ways for Anaheim.
