Through the first 17 games of the season, Logan Cooley has had some highs and lows.
So far, the 2022 third overall has lived up to his expectations in a way as he currently is second in rookie points with 12 and leads all rookies in assists with 10.
His 10 assists are an indicator of how strong of a playmaker he truly is. Cooley has been excellent on the power play where his strongest attribute seems to be the ability to find his teammates in perfect positions.
The 19-year-old has flashed off his offensive potential, specifically impressing with his blazing speed and top-notch puck handling abilities.
Over time, Cooley has become more and more comfortable with the puck on his stick specifically with his patience as he is turning the puck over less and continues to make smart plays.
However, it's on the defensive side of the puck where Cooley needs to make some improvements.
The 19-year-old must do a better job getting back on defense on odd man rushes and needs to adapt better when the Coyotes are buried in their own zone.
Cooley has yet to fully gain the trust of coach André Tourigny as he is playing 16:04 minutes per game and his time on ice has decreased since the beginning of the year partly because of his play defensively.
The development into a complete two-way center will certainly take time but he should get stronger on both sides of the puck throughout the course of this season.
For anyone watching the Coyotes in the future, keep an eye out for number 92 because this is all just the beginning for Cooley who will continue to impress fans with his top-end talent.
