It was an emotional scene as the Arizona Coyotes played their final game in the Valley on Wednesday night where they were able to pull off a 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

This was more than just an ordinary game and win though.

The Coyotes are set to officially relocate to Salt Lake City in a matter of days, so it was clear that this would be their last ever time playing in Arizona.

Mullett Arena was packed with fans who just wanted to say goodbye to their beloved Coyotes and send them off with one last positive memory.

Chants of let’s go Coyotes and Salt Lake Sucksechoed across the arena all night as fans cherished every last second of watching a team that has brought them so much joy over the years.

When the game ended, players stayed on the ice honoring the fans for what was most likely the final time.

Some people shed tears with the realization of the team’s relocation to Salt lake City becoming a daunting reality.

Following the game, media members embraced each other and essentially said their goodbyes with the future so unknown at the moment.

There was hockey being played, but that was the furthest thing on everyone’s mind. The Coyotes have become a family for many and this almost felt like a family gathering in a way.

It had a different feel than any ordinary regular season game. The fans, media and players just seemed to be trying to soak in every last moment in what marked the end of this Coyotes franchise as we know it.

Disappointment, anger and sadness is what everyone associated with the Coyotes organization is feeling right now. On Wednesday night, it was gratitude, appreciation and love that was truly felt.

Despite all the negative factors at play, there was something beautiful about all of it at the same time which made the whole experience really powerful and special.

It’s been a bumpy road for the Coyotes since the team moved to the Valley in 1996 and it wasn’t a pretty ending for the franchise either. However, their final game wasn’t a funeral, yet it was a celebration and a remembrance for how much the Coyotes have impacted this community.

The Coyotes will no longer be in Arizona, but their presence here will certainly never be forgotten.
