Through the Arizona Coyotes’ lengthy arena search, there have been some people wondering if Alex Meruelo would ever consider selling the team.

Coyotes president and CEO Xavier Gutierrez made it abundantly clear Meruelo is not even entertaining that thought.

"We are committed to being here, and every action we have taken has shown that," Gutierrez said.

"Again, we are not talking about moving. We have been very clear. Alex Meruelo has said: 'I'm not selling the team. I'm not moving the team. I want to pay for my arena. Give me that opportunity. I want to move forward.'"

It was reported by PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan that an auction for state trust land the Coyotes applied for in north Phoenix will reportedly be posted on March 14 and is expected to take place at some point in June.

Gary Bettman is also on record saying that Meruelo told him that he is certainhe will be able to get a deal done regarding a new arena.

There was also an announcement a few weeks ago stating that Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith formally asked the NHL to initiate the expansion process and bring a team to Salt Lake City which naturally sparked rumors of the Coyotes’ relocation.

However, Gutierrez and Meruelo continue to put out reassuring messages despite nothing concrete being set in stone.

Time will only tell whether Meruelo is able to finally secure a permanent home for the Coyotes in the Valley and put his money where his mouth is.
