The Arizona Coyotes have not tendered a qualifying offer to forward Christian Fischer according to PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan. Fischer now will become an unrestricted free agent allowing him to test the open market.
This move certainly comes as a surprise since at 26-years-old, Fischer seemed only to be getting better. He came off one of his best seasons tallying 13 goals, 14 assists and 27 points in 80 games.
Fischer was drafted by the Coyotes in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft and has played all 398 games of his career in Arizona where he has a total of 56 goals, 55 assists and 111 points.
While Fischer only played with the Coyotes for a handful of seasons, his name will still be remembered. He scored the first ever goal for the Coyotes at Mullett Arena and really was a fan favorite so it's hard to move on from a player like that.
Fischer had arbitration rights which could have been the main reason why Arizona decided to ultimately let him become a UFA. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, The Coyotes are still interested in resigning Fischer.
Some other restricted free agents that did receive a qualifying offer according to Morgan are Matias Maccelli, Jack McBain, Nathan Smith, Ivan Provestov and Jan Jenik.
