After showing some promise throughout training camp, the Arizona Coyotes assigned Dylan Guenther to the Tucson Roadrunners putting his NHL career on hold.

The Arizona Coyotes assigned forward Dylan Guenther to the Tucson Roadrunners on Sunday.
This comes as a bit of a surprise. The Coyotes drafted Guenther with the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Guenther actually played 33 games with the Coyotes last season before being sent down to the WHL where he was outstanding with the Seattle Thunderbirds tallying 29 goals, 28 assists and 57 points in 39 games.
It really seemed that this was the year where Guenther would finally make the full-time jump into the NHL. The 20-year-old was playing with Logan Cooley and Jason Zucker throughout training camp and preseason while even seeing time on the power play.
With injuries it's always possible Guenther could make the Coyotes roster at some point this season but for now, he will play with the Roadrunners as he continues his development.
Other players that were assigned to the AHL or placed on waivers include Ivan Prosvetov, Zach Sanford, Travis Boyd and Maksymilian Szuber.
Michael Kesselring and Vladislav Kolyachonok were both called back up to the Coyotes from the Roadrunners.
