The Arizona Coyotes assigned forward Josh Doan to the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL on Monday officially ending his short training camp stint with the team.
The Coyotes drafted Doan in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft. Doan played two seasons with the Arizona State Sun Devils where he served as captain this past year.
Going into training camp, expectations were considerably high for the 21-year-old as his father Shane Doan was the face of the Coyotes organization for over a decade playing in Arizona from 1996-2017.
Josh delivered and showed flashes of his fathers game, specifically offensively scoring a hat trick in his first preseason game while performing well at the Rookie Faceoff tallying four goals in three games.
When it comes to forwards, there are not many openings on the Coyotes roster so Josh making the team was a long shot, but this experience should benefit him as he got a little taste of what it is like to be in the NHL.
Other players that were sent down to the Roadrunners include Milos Kelemen, Nathan Smith, Aku Raty, Ben McCartney, Vladislav Kolyachonok, Michael Kesselring, Patrik Koch, Montana Onyebuchi and Curtis Douglas.
