During the 2022 NHL Draft, the Flyers were a team that had interest in Cooley before the Coyotes ultimately selected him.

The Arizona Coyotes selected center Logan Cooley with the third overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft in order to help revitalize the franchise.

However, that pick may have been close to not even happening as there was another team that had Cooley on their radar.

That team was the Philadelphia Flyers who spoke with Cooley just 20 minutes before the draft began, adding a lot of drama and suspense for what was about to ensue.

“I had a lot of great meetings with Arizona,” Cooley said on the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast. “So I thought, you know, if I would get down to three that, you know, I’d have a good chance of going there. But you know, I met with the Flyers I think it was like 20 minutes before the draft too and I think they were trying to like trade up, so I didn’t know exactly what was going to happen …”

After the Montreal Canadiens selected Juraj Slafkovský with the first pick, there seemed to be potential that the New Jersey Devils would trade the second overall pick and who knows, maybe the Flyers gave them a call.

This is all hypothetical though as Cooley fell into the Coyotes lap and general manager Bill Armstrong pulled the trigger on the explosive center while the Flyers picked left winger Cutter Gauthier with the fifth overall pick.

Cooley has had a great start to his rookie campaign tallying a total of one goal, seven assists and eight points in 12 games.

As the years go on, Cooley should only continue to grow and develop his game so the Coyotes should be very happy they were the ones that ultimately selected Cooley.
