Joe Camporeale-USA Today Sports - Logan Cooley Headlines Coyotes in Hockey News Preseason Poll

The Hockey News conducted a preseason NHL poll on awards, expectations and predictions for teams and players ahead of the 2023-24 season as 34 THN staff shared their votes.

While the Arizona Coyotes or any of its players did not win in any of the categories, they did come close in a couple.

Logan Cooley ranked second with seven votes in the category “What Rookie Aside From Connor Bedard are you Most Excited to see.”

Cooley was selected with the third overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft by the Coyotes. The 19-year-old center played at the University of Minnesota last season where led his team to the Nation Championship game and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Cooley had 22 goals, 38 assists and 60 points in 39 games.

This upcoming season, Cooley has an opportunity to make a real impact with Arizona as he should slot into the lineup as a top-six center and get minutes on the power play.

The Coyotes tied for third with two votes for the “Team Breakout” category. During the offseason general manager Bill Armstrong bolstered the roster adding players like Sean Durzi, Jason Zucker, Matt Dumba, Alexander Kerfoot and Nick Bjugstad.

With the Coyotes young core continuing to develop well on top of all these new additions, Arizona should certainly improve and very well could be a breakout team in the Western Conference.

Whether the Coyotes are a playoff team or not is yet to be seen but improvement is necessary especially with all the moves the team went out and made this summer.
