This Bruins forward could become a very popular target as we continue to get closer to the deadline.

After losing back-to-back games before the 4 Nations Face-Off break, the Boston Bruins continue to worsen their playoff chances. They are sixth in the Atlantic Division and have played more games than teams they are trying to catch, like the Tampa Bay Lightning, Ottawa Senators, and Detroit Red Wings.

With the way the Bruins' season is going, the prospect of them selling off some of their players is undoubtedly growing. Forward Justin Brazeau is one player standing out as a prime potential trade candidate.

Brazeau, 27, is a pending unrestricted free agent who could be a popular rental target for playoff teams. The 6-foot-6 forward has a bargain $775,000 cap hit, which, without a doubt, adds to his appeal.

Brazeau has had a solid season overall for the Bruins, posting 10 goals, 20 points, and 81 hits. When playing at his best, he has given Boston solid secondary scoring. However, he is also in a significant slump as of late, failing to record a point in eight straight games.

Brazeau's struggles have also seen him get healthy scratched occasionally, most recently during the Bruins' Feb. 8 matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights.

It will be interesting to see what the Bruins decide to do with Brazeau. There is an argument to be had for keeping the big forward, but if management does not view him as part of their long-term plans, a trade could very well occur.
