This former Bruins goalie is inching closer to his return.

Former Boston Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark has not played for the Ottawa Senators since their Dec. 22 contest against the Edmonton Oilers. The 31-year-old left the game due to an upper-body injury and has been sidelined since.

However, Ullmark is now ready to return, as the star goaltender has been activated off long-term injured reserve by the Senators, per the NHL Media site. With this, Senators goalie Leevi Merilainen was sent back down to the AHL.

Ullmark's return is massive news for the Senators, one of the many teams in the tight Eastern Conference playoff race. At this point in the season, they have a 28-20-4 record and are third in the Atlantic Division. However, the Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Detroit Red Wings are all right behind them.

The Bruins traded Ullmark to the Senators this past off-season after deciding to roll with Jeremy Swayman as their true No. 1 goalie moving forward. Ullmark has made an immediate impact with the Senators, posting a 12-7-2 record, a 2.38 goals-against average, and a .915 save percentage in 23 games.

The Senators will face the Nashville Predators on Feb. 3, but Senators head coach Travis Green confirmed Anton Forsberg will be Ottawa's goaltender. Ullmark, on the other hand, will be available as the club's backup.
