The Buffalo Sabres are in their 56th season and have a storied history. The club has 15 players who have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and many others who deserve recognition. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at players in Sabres history by their jersey number, ranking the top three players to wear that particular number.
The top three who wore #29 in team history are: Gary Bromley, Jason Pominville, Beck Malenstyn.
Bromley joined the Sabres in the 1973-74 season as a backup, and ascended to the regular season primary starter in 1974-75, going 26-11-11 in the year Buffalo went to the Stanley Cup Final, but he lost his starting role to Gerry Desjardins in the Sabres Cup run and bolted to the rival WHA the next season. Pominville had two stints with Buffalo over 10 seasons and was a model of consistency, scoring 20 or more goals six seasons in a row, and becoming team captain. Malenstyn was acquired from Washington for a second round pick in 2024 and has been a dependable depth forward and penalty killer for the last two seasons.
