The Buffalo Sabres are in their 56th season and have a storied history. The club has 15 players who have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and many others who deserve recognition. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at players in Sabres history by their jersey number, ranking the top three players to wear that particular number.
The top three who wore #17 in team history are: Mike Foligno, JP Dumont, and Jason Zucker:
Foligno was acquired from Detroit in 1981 and played 10 seasons with the Sabres, scoring 264 goals (eight consecutive seasons with 20 or more goals). A former third overall pick of the NY Islanders, Dumont was acquired along with Doug Gilmour from Chicago in 2000 and spent five seasons with Buffalo, scoring 20 or more goals four times. Zucker was a free agent signing in 2024 expected to play a depth role, but instead moved into a top-six role with the Sabres, scoring 21 goals and earning a contract extension. This season, he is on pace to reach the 20-goal mark once again, with 15 goals in 39 games.
