The Buffalo Sabres are in their 56th season and have a storied history. The club has 15 players who have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and many others who deserve recognition. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at players in Sabres history by their jersey number, ranking the top three players to wear that particular number.
The top three who wore #33 in team history are: Benoit Hogue, Will Borgen, Ryan Johnson
A second-round pick in 1985, Hogue joined the Sabres in 1988 and scored in double figures three straight seasons before being dealt to the NY Islanders in the massive Pierre Turgeon - Pat Lafontaine deal, where he averaged 33 goals the next three seasons. Borgen was a 2015 fourth-round pick who played just 14 games over two seasons before being claimed by Seattle in the expansion draft. The 29-year-old was a steady right-handed defenseman for three seasons before being dealt to the NY Rangers, where he has been in their top four the last two years. A late first-round pick in 2019, Johnson played four years at the University of Minnesota before signing with the Sabres. In the last three seasons, the 24-year-old has split time between Buffalo and AHL Rochester.
