The Buffalo Sabres are in their 56th season and have a storied history. The club has 15 players who have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and many others who deserve recognition. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at players in Sabres history by their jersey number, ranking the top three players to wear that particular number.
The top three who wore #34 in team history are: Gord Donnelly, Chris Butler, and Alex Lyon.
Donnelly was one of the NHL’s top enforcers during his 12-year career, playing for four teams, including the Sabres for two seasons. He compiled 557 penalty minutes in 134 games. Butler played 11 seasons in the NHL, beginning with Buffalo in 2008, and played three seasons before being dealt to Calgary for veteran Robyn Regehr in 2011. Lyon was a free agent signing last summer and has been the Sabres most consistent starter this season, with a 17-8-3 record.
