The Buffalo Sabres are in their 56th season and have a storied history. The club has 15 players who have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and many others who deserve recognition. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at players in Sabres history by their jersey number, ranking the top two players to wear that particular number.

The top two who wore #45 in team history are: Dmitri Kalinin and Brendan Guhle.

A first round pick in 1996, Kalinin played eight of his nine seasons with the Sabres and was a member of the club’s consecutive Eastern Conference finalists in 2006 and 2007. After signing with the Rangers and being traded to Arizona in 2009, the Russian blueliner played 10 more seasons and won two Gagarin Cups in the KHL before retiring in 2020. Guhle was as a highly regarded defensive prospect selected in the second round of the 2015 Draft and played 23 games over three seasons before being traded to Anaheim for Brandon Montour in 2019.
