Who is the best player to wear #78 through 82 in Sabres history?
The Buffalo Sabres are in their 56th season and have a storied history. The club has 15 players who have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and many others who deserve recognition. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at players in Sabres history by their jersey number, ranking the top two players to wear that particular number. Since less players have worn higher numbers in the club’s history, we will look at a range of numbers.
The top two who wore #78 through 82 in team history are: Miroslav Satan and Marcus Foligno.
Satan was a 1993 mid-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers and was acquired by the Sabres at the 1997 trade deadline in one of the club’s greatest steals. In seven full seasons with Buffalo, the Slovak winger never scored less than 22 goals and scored a career-high 40 goals in 1999, when the club reached the Stanley Cup Final. Foligno was born in Buffalo while his father Mike played for the Sabres, and after a late season call up saw him score six goals in 2012, the rugged winger settled into a role of a very effective physical third-liner. After five seasons in his hometown, he was dealt to the Minnesota Wild, where he has spent the last nine seasons.
