The Buffalo Sabres are in their 56th season and have a storied history. The club has 15 players who have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and many others who deserve recognition. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at players in Sabres history by their jersey number, ranking the top three players to wear that particular number.

The top three who wore #8 in team history are:  Jim Lorentz, Tony McKegney, and Doug Bodger.

Lorentz won a Cup with Boston and was acquired from New York in 1972. In six-plus seasons with the Sabres, he scored 20 or more goals four times, and after his career was a popular part of the club’s broadcast team. McKegney was a second-round pick in 1978 and made the NHL as a 20-year-old. In four seasons with Buffalo, he scored over 20 goals twice and over 30 twice before being traded to Quebec in 1983. Bodger was acquired from Pittsburgh in 1988 in a trade for Tom Barrasso and scored 40 or more points four times.
