The Buffalo Sabres are in their 56th season and have a storied history. The club has 15 players who have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and many others who deserve recognition. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at players in Sabres history by their jersey number, ranking the top three players to wear that particular number.
The top three who wore #28 in team history are: Bob Sauve, Donald Audette, and Zemgus Girgensons..
Sauve was a Sabres first rounder in 1975 and was part of their excellent tandem in the early 80’s with Don Edwards that got to the Stanley Cup semi-final in 1980 and the second round in 1982-83. Audette was a late round pick in 1989 that made the NHL the following year and scored 31 goals as a rookie in 1992, and over 20 goals in four of his nine seasons with Buffalo. Girgensons was a 2012 first rounder who spent his first dozen years with the Sabres. Known mostly as a defensive forward, the Latvian scored in double figues in goals four times.
