Greenway set to play Minnesota for the first time since being traded in March
The match between the Minnesota Wild and Buffalo Sabres on Friday features a number of players who have previously played for the other club. Most notably the game marks the first time that Sabres winger Jordan Greenway will play against the club that selected him in the second round of the 2015 Draft.
"I've never been in a situation like this where you get traded to another team and play your previous team," Greenway said. "It will be a little weird, but I don't think it'll be too much of a challenge for me."
The contest features ex-Sabres Marcus Johansson, Buffalo native Marcus Foligno, and Zach Bogosian. Buffalo has a number of Minnesota connections, with Alex Tuch being a former Wild first-rounder (Tuch is doubtful to play due to an upper-body injury), Gopher State natives Erik Johnson and Kyle Okposo, and University of Minnesota alums Casey Mittelstadt and Ryan Johnson.
Bogosian, who requested to have his contract terminated with the Sabres in 2020 to join Tampa Bay, was acquired by Minnesota for a seventh-round pick earlier this week after being a part-time player for the Lightning for the last three seasons. The 33-year-old made his debut with the Wild in a 4-1 loss to the Rangers in New York on Thursday.
