Sabres prospects selected by Hockey Canada for camp starting Sunday in Toronto

Two Buffalo Sabres prospects have been named by Team Canada to their preliminary roster for the 2024 IIHF World Junior in Gothenburg, Sweden later this month. 2022 top pick Matthew Savoie and 2023 fifth-rounder Scott Ratzlaff were selected as part of a 30-man roster that will be cut down to 25 players later this month.
Savoie, 19, who was demoted to the Wenatchee Wild of the Western Hockey League last month, has 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) in 10 games this season and is considered a shoo-in to be on Canada’s top line.
Ratzlaff, 18, was selected 141st overall and is 8-7-1, with a 3.01 GAA and .900 save percentage in 17 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL, and is in the mix for one of the Canadian spots in net, along with North Bay’s Domenic DiVincentiis, Halifax’s Mathis Rousseau, and Sherbrooke’s Samuel St-Hilaire.
2023 top pick Zach Benson was not on the list, but could be an option for Canada if he is made available by the Sabres over the next couple of weeks. That possibility was left open by Sabres GM Kevyn Adams last week but became less likely with injuries to forwards Alex Tuch and Jordan Greenway last weekend.
