Off The Post Questioning The Sabres Developmental Model Of Devon Levi Devon Levi was sent down prior to the NHL All-Star break by the Buffalo Sabres to the Rochester Americans, but his return date is in question after two previous short stints in the American Hockey League. The 22-year-old played just his fourth game with the Amerks on Wednesday against Syracuse, facing just 18 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Syracuse Crunch at the Blue Cross Arena. "He was rock solid, looked in control, looked calm. (He) didn't have a massive workload, because I thought we defended really well." Rochester head coach Seth Appert said after the game. "There's a lot of connectivity between us and Buffalo. The way that (GM) Kevyn (Adams) runs the organization and how much part of training camps and development camps and all those different things." Buffalo recalled veteran Eric Comrie from the Americans after performing well during a short stint since clearing waivers (3-1-0, 2.58 GAA, .920 save %). It was thought that Comrie’s stay would only last during the NHL stoppage and that Levi’s stay would be a brief one, but there have been some indications that with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen playing well as the primary starter with the Sabres, Adams may be warming to the idea of the youngster staying down for a longer stretch. Rochester has back-to-back road games in Laval against the Rockets on Friday and Saturday, and Appert indicated that Levi will start in one of those games. "We are just taking it right now week by week. He's not gonna play both (games against Laval)." Appert said. "We're not going to put them into three in four (games) with a 7 o'clock game and a 3 o'clock game the next afternoon, so he'll play one of the two this weekend." The Sabres are not scheduled to play until February 6 against the Dallas Stars at Key Bank Center. With Luukkonen getting the majority of the starts, it would be wise to give Levi a lengthy stretch of work since Buffalo’s playoff chances are slim and it would benefit him to get regular starts leading into the Calder Cup Playoffs.
