The Richmond Hill Sports Hall of Fame recently inducted its Class of 2025, which includes a former Calgary Flames forward.
In December 2024, inductees for the Richmond Hill Sports of Fame Class of 2025 were announced, featuring former Calgary Flames forward Mike Cammalleri.
On Jan. 30, the veteran of 906 games, including 216 with the Flames, received his plaque along with WWE superstar Trish Stratus, hockey coach Mark Joslin, and community sports builder Brian Penrose.
Cammalleri was born in Richmond Hill, ON, on June 8, 1982, and was drafted in the second round (49th overall) of the 2001 Draft.
Interestingly, Cammalleri is one of 57 players to skate with both the Flames and Edmonton Oilers. He skated in Calgary from 2012 to 2014 before finishing his NHL career in Edmonton in 2017-18.
He was a two-time 30-goal scorer and scored more than 20 goals on seven occasions. He finished with 294 lamplighters and 642 points with five teams, including the Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens, and New Jersey Devils.
Before debuting with the Kings in 2002, Cammalleri was a standout player in the NCAA. He won a CCHA Championship and was named tournament MVP. Additionally, he was voted to the CCHA Second All-Star Team and First All-American Team.
At the 2002 World Junior Championships, he helped the United States to a silver medal and was named the tournament's Best Forward and Most Valuable Player. Thanks to the most goals (seven) and points (11), Cammalleri was named to the All-Star Team. His last international achievement was a World Championship in 2007.
On Jan. 12, 2012, Cammalleri joined the Flames from the Canadiens in a deal that saw Rene Bourque, Patrick Holland, and a second-round pick (Zachary Fucale) go East, while Karri Rämö and a fifth-round pick (Ryan Culkin) came West.
He played 216 games with Calgary, scoring 89 goals and 89 assists for 178 points, which ranks 54th all-time.
