Kraken netted a third-period winner while the Flames fired too many blanks despite an 18-shot final frame

    OK is not OK.

The Calgary Flames were OK, and that is the reason they dropped a 2-1 clash with the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday.

The Flames came out of the holiday break and dropped a second consecutive game despite a 38-shot performance against the Kraken’s third-string goaltender — former Calgary Hitmen standout Chris Driedger, who was playing his first NHL game since May 1, 2022.

Nazem Kadri scored Calgary’s lone goal, a power-play marker for the third consecutive outing, but it was not enough, and Calgary lost to the Kraken for only the second time in their 10 all-time meetings.

Goalie Jacob Markstrom stopped 19 shots, but was victimized on the game’s first shot for the second consecutive outing, Kailer Yamamoto’s breakaway tally, and Alex Wennberg’s third-period game winner.

The Kraken move two points ahead of Calgary in the standings, although the Flames do own one game in hand.

The Flames (14-16-5) return to action Sunday for a New Year’s Eve clash with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Check back Thursday morning for the takeaways.
