Flames spent the whole game chasing and it was just too much to overcome against a Kings squad determined to change their home-ice woes

It was an uphill battle for the Calgary Flames from the 61-second mark.

A battle that was ultimately was too much for the Flames in their 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Jacob Markstrom was beat by the game’s first shot, which was answered by Rasmus Andersson’s goal less than two minutes later.

The Flames also erased another deficit, tying the clash 2-2 when Blake Coleman scored his fourth short-handed marker of the campaign.

However, after Alex Laferriere and Trevor Moore tallied before the midway point of the second period, the Flames were simply too far behind the Kings, who were determined to change their fortunes at home. Los Angeles now has a 6-6-3 record at home.

Calgary (14-15-5) failed to convert on a double-minor in which all but 12 seconds of a four-minute advantage started the third period, but Coleman made it a one-goal game with a power-play goal with 12 minutes remaining, his team-best 12th of the campaign.

The comeback efforts were quashed when Quinton Byfield scored an empty netter, his second goal of the game, with 60 seconds remaining for the Kings (19-7-4).

Check back Sunday morning for the takeaways.
