The Calgary Flames were forced to sign emergency back-up goaltender Dustin Nickel to an amateur contract for Monday's home clash with the Vegas Golden Knights. He will serve as back-up to Dan Vladar.

Jacob Markstrom, who was scheduled to start the game, fell ill, but by the time the club was alerted to his situation, it was too late to recall Dustin Wolf from the AHL's Calgary Wranglers. The deadline is 5 p.m.

Nickel, 32, grew up in Calgary and has been a team EBUG for the past few seasons. He played junior for the Calgary Canucks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and Kindersley Klippers in Saskatchewan, and also played at Mount Royal University.
