Sportico, a sports business site, places the Flames 17th in the NHL, and with a 31% increase from last season

Sports business website Sportico has the Calgary Flames’ franchise estimated to be worth $1.14 billion, placing them 17th in the 32-team NHL.

Calgary’s value, according to the the formula, has increased by 31 percent since last season. That value does not include the new arena expected to be completed in the 2027-28 season, which should increase the club’s revenue and value.

In its list of NHL franchise valuations, Sportico has the Toronto Maple Leafs ranked atop at $2.65 billion, followed by the New York Rangers at $2.45 billion and the Montreal Canadiens at $2.27 billion.

Among Canadian teams, the Edmonton Oilers are placed eighth ($1.59 billion), while the Vancouver Canucks are 13th ($1.2 billion). The Ottawa Senators are placed 27th ($950 million) with the Winnipeg Jets next ($925 million).

The valuations are curious in line with recent transactions. For example, Michael Andlauer bought the Senators and their AHL affiliate for $950 million in September (although the family of late owner Eugene Melnyk reportedly holds 10%), and earlier this month sold a 10% stake in the Canadiens that placed the franchise’s value at $2.5 billion.

Andlauer reportedly became a minority owner of the Canadiens when the Molson family spearheaded buying the team from George Gillett for approximately $575 million in 2009.
