Move allows Calgary plenty of options after Andrew Mangiapane serves his suspension

Move allows Calgary plenty of options after Andrew Mangiapane serves his suspension

Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports - Flames place Dryden Hunt on waivers

Dryden Hunt made the opening night roster of the Calgary Flames, spent time on the power play in a top-line role and now is on waivers and likely ticketed to the minors.

Talk about a topsy turvy month for the forward.

Hunt, who was held without a point in four NHL games this season, may remain with the club if no team claims him before Wednesday's deadline, but would appear headed to the AHL Calgary Wranglers. The Flames will have forward Andrew Mangiapane back from his one-game suspension after Tuesday's home game against the Nashville Predators.

That follows Adam Ruzicka's return from injury — he missed four games — as well as the promotion of a pair of young forwards in Connor Zary and Martin Pospisil.

Calgary currently is carrying a full 23-man roster.

There is no guarantee Hunt, who will turn 25 in a couple of weeks, will be dispatched if he clears waivers. After all, an injury can quickly change the club's plans.

However, having the ability to move him gives the Flames options going forward.
