The AHL's two-time goaltender of the year added in time for a three-game road trip

The Calgary Flames are having pretty good success with rookies so far this season.

The Flames added another as they head out for a three-game Eastern Canada trip that starts Friday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Goaltender Dustin Wolf was summoned from the AHL Wranglers on Thursday.

The club did not immediately make a corresponding move with either of its other goalies, Jacob Markstrom and Dan Vladar, but there likely is a reason for the recall — such as illness or injury — for the club to recall Wolf. Markstrom did not practise on Wednesday, and the team said it was due to "maintenance".

The Flames will face the Ottawa Senators on Saturday and the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.

Wolf, 22, made his NHL debut in the 2022-23 regular-season finale and stopped 23 shots in a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Last season’s AHL most valuable player and the two-time AHL top goaltender, Wolf has played in six games this season for the Wranglers, in which he has posted a 5-1-0 record with a 2.34 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.

The 2019 seventh-round draft pick has been the top goaltender of his league in four consecutive seasons, making him one of the club’s most exciting prospects. In the 2022-23 campaign, he led the AHL in wins (42), shutouts (seven), goals-against average (2.09) and save percentage (.932).
