Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom has a fantastic mask specially designed for the Heritage Classic.
When Markstrom and the Flames visit the Edmonton Oilers for the outdoor clash at Commonwealth Stadium on Sunday, he will be donning a mask that will not require a toque to complete the old-school look first used by Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price in the first Heritage Classic game.
Markstrom's mask, created by JBo Airbrush of Calgary, uses the traditional skull that is synonymous with the netminder, but with a knitted look, including creative ties and frayed points. As well, the knitted appearance is incorporated in the Flames logo used on the team's sweaters for the game.
The design by artist Jordon Bourgeault even includes the knitted wool look on the straps, as well as a backplate featuring Markstrom's regular uses of the Tre Kroner, the name of his son and "Pappa".
JBo Airbrush has created Markstrom's masks for the past few seasons, including a Johnny Cash themed one for this season.
