TSN insider Darren Dreger reported the veteran centre wants to stay if the team will push to contend, but wants out the door if a teardown takes place

Add Nazem Kadri to the list of Calgary Flames players looking to leave if the circumstances warrant.
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Kadri has told the Flames he wants to stay in Calgary if the club contends, but he has no interest in being part of a rebuild if that is the club’s direction. Dreger made the report during the Insider Trading segment.
Kadri, after winning a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022, signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with Calgary.
He went into Tuesday’s night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens with two goals, six assists and a minus-12 rating in 14 games.
Defenceman Nikita Zadorov has already asked for a trade in the hopes of increasing his ice time in anticipation of becoming an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Fellow defencemen Noah Hanifin and Chris Tanev are also due to become UFAs, as is top-line centre Elias Lindholm, and the club is listening to conversations about those players.
According to Pierre Lebrun of TSN, Hanifin was close to signing an extension believed close to $60 million last month.
