NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman speculates that the Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers could be working on a trade.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman speculates that the Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers could be working on a trade.

The Calgary Flames announced Andrei Kuzmenko was a late scratch for Thursday night's game against the Anaheim Ducks at the Saddledome.

Although the club did not announce a reason behind the lineup adjustment, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman later tweeted that the club could be working on a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers involving the 28-year-old.

Meanwhile, the rumors continue to swirl on social media, as Flyers' forward Morgan Frost was not on the bench during the third period of their game against the New York Islanders.

In 37 games this season, Kuzmenko has four goals and 15 points, recently scoring five in his last five games.

Although it is just speculation at this point as to why Frost did not skate in the third period if the Flames can acquire the 25-year-old former 27th overall pick, he's got 11 goals and 25 points in 48 games this year.

Frost has played 277 games over six seasons with the Flyers and Scored 50 goals, 85 assists, and 135 points. Moreover, Kuzmenko, playing with the Vancouver Canucks and Flames, has 65 goals and 70 assists for 135 points in 190 games.

    Update (8:13 pm)

In the second period, the Flames announced that Jakob Pelletier would not return to their game against the Ducks. The 23-year-old ball of energy has four goals and 11 points in 23 games this season.

Although Ryan Leslie mentioned on air that this is all speculation regarding a possible trade, there is no further information at this time regarding his absence.

    Update (8:35 pm)

Kevin Kurz, Flyers writer for The Athletic, reported that Frost's gear is still in his stall at the Wells Fargo Center.

Meanwhile, others on social media believe Frost's absence is related to an injury and has nothing to do with a trade.

    Update (8:46 pm)

Frank Seravalli tweeted that the Flyers may be trading Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost to the Flames.

In 49 games this season, Farabee has eight goals and 19 points. Another first-round pick (14th overall) like Frost, he's scored 90 goals and 201 points in 383 games with the Flyers over the past six seasons.

    Update (8:57 pm)

Friedman now reports that Kuzmenko has waived his no-trade clause to go to the Flyers.

Several media personalities, including Eric Francis and Luke Gazdic, believe this trade will have more pieces as the night unfolds.

    Update (9:40 pm)

Pierre LeBrun reports that the official trade call between the Flames and Flyers will occur after the Flames' and Ducks' game.

Although it is still not official, it appears Calgary is including two draft picks in the deal for Farabee and Frost in exchange for Pelletier and Kuzmenko.
