Brandon Bussi Takes Blame For Loss; Teammates Have His Back

The Carolina Hurricanes lost their season opener to the Florida Panthers 1-0 in overtime, as a Gustav Forsling slapshot wound up past Brandon Bussi with just 4.3 seconds to go in the extra frame.

Despite the puck deflecting off of Taylor Hall, the Carolina netminder shouldered the loss.

"It might have hit our D-man or whatever," Bussi said. "Took a weird bounce, but it was far enough out, I should have found it. For some reason, I didn't get a good visual on it, and it's 4 seconds left, trying to get to a shootout. So I think on my standards, it's a bad goal."

However, his team had his back.

"He played great," said captain Jordan Staal. "Gave us a chance. That's what you want."

"He's going to want that one back, but he's the reason we got the point," said Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour. "I thought he made some real nice, big saves. Even though it wasn't a lot of action, he was good when we needed him to be."
