Sebastian Aho Dazzles With Potential Goal of the Year Candidate

Carolina Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho has made his early submission for goal of the year with his second period shorthanded tally on Saturday.

Facing off against the Chicago Blackhawks' power play, Aho took the puck the other way in transition and juked out a stickless Bowen Byram before sniping it past Spencer Knight.

"It was a heads up play by [K'Andre Miller] not just chucking the puck away," Aho said. "Obviously got a little lucky since the D-man didn't have a stick, right? But nonetheless, great play by Key and I was kind of looking for him to beat his guy, but it was just how it happened and I was able to pull a nice move and put the puck in the net.  "

"It was a pretty nifty little play and the understanding too of the situation of the guy without a stick," said Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour. "That's just the hockey sense, right? And then obviously the shot to finish it off. That was a big point in the game."

The tally was also the 23rd shorthanded goal of Aho's career, which is the most by any NHL player since he entered the league (2016-17).
