The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled goaltender Yaniv Perets from the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL.
The move comes in response to yesterday's move where the team placed netminder Antti Raanta on waivers.
As the team awaits Raanta's fate (waivers aren't processed until 2pm EST), Perets' callup gives them a backup on hand should Raanta get claimed.
Perets, who signed a two-year ELC with the Canes after he backstopped the Quinnipiac Bobcats to a NCAA championship, has appeared in 11 games with the Admirals this season.
In those games, Perets has a 5-5-1 record with a 0.916 save percentage, 2.38 goals against average and one shutout.
Consistency has been the name of the game for Perets, who had over a 0.930 save percentage in each of his two seasons with Quinnipiac, and it seems like going pro hasn't changed that at all.
However the jump from the ECHL to the NHL is gargantuan and so while he more than likely won't be getting any game action during this recall (fingers crossed), if circumstance does throw him in... you never know.
But more than likely, this move A) covers the Hurricanes should Raanta get claimed and B) buys time for Carolina to continue to scour the trade market.
