Pyotr Kochetkov has proven that he can put together some strong outings, but the team just needs a second guy that can keep them in games." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "So what are the options?" } }, { "type": "header", "data": { "text": "In-House?", "level": 2 } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "You options here are actually extremely limited. The Canes have just four goaltenders under contract within the organization: Andersen, Raanta, Kochetkov and Yaniv Perets." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Perets was signed to a two-year entry level deal which kicked in this season. " } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "A NCAA champion with the Quinnipiac Bobcats last year, Perets has some strong pedigree, but he's been playing in the ECHL this season. The jump to the NHL will be much too great for him and he's going to need more development time before he's rushed into the big leagues. " } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "So really, the only real option is to test the trade market." } }, { "type": "delimiter", "data": {} }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Let's get one thing straight, the goalie market is not too hot right now." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "There are options, sure, but they're not great ones. " } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "It's a risky market and there's just nobody out there right now that's a slam dunk." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "The Canes aren't the only one in the market either. Edmonton and New Jersey have both had bad goaltending too and neither of them has made a move either. The Danish netminder is still under contract for another season with Carolina and Kochetkov has a multi-year deal. " } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "On top of having another year, Vejmelka has not performed too well this season, so he's a guy I wouldn't bet on if I was Carolina." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "John Gibson - Anaheim Ducks" } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "30, 6-2, Three more years at $6.4 million AAV with M-NTC

" } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Kahkonen has had quite a heavy workload, having faced over 30 shots in eight of his 12 starts. Despite that, he's had some strong results having over a 0.900 save percentage in eight of his 14 appearances.
