1.20.24 - Carolina Hurricanes Goaltending Roundup The Carolina Hurricanes took to the ice Tuesday morning at Invisalign Arena for practice before they caught a flight north for their Wednesday night matchup against the Boston Bruins. While star forward Andrei Svechnikov did take to the ice before the full practice, skating with assistant coach Jeff Daniels, he did not stay out with the main group. The Russian winger missed Sunday's game against the Minnesota Wild with an upper-body injury. Following practice, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour stated that Svechnikov would not be making the trip. "It's nothing major, so maybe it's day-to-day, but he's not taking the trip," Brind'Amour said. "I'm hopeful that he'll be able to bounce back quickly." Brind'Amour also stated that this was a new injury and not a reaggravation of anything. Also on the injury front, netminder Pyotr Kochetkov was a full participant in practice on Tuesday and while Brind'Amour stated he isn't all the way back yet, it's a good step. "He looks good," Brind'Amour said. "I don't know where he is with the testing, but I think he still has to clear one more. We go through these protocols now, so it's kind of out of everybody's hands. But he certainly looked ready to go." Kochetkov has missed the last four games after leaving early against the Anaheim Ducks on Jan. 11 following an incidental blow to the head. In other goalie news, new guy Spencer Martin looks prepped to make his first start as a Hurricane very soon. He had a net all to himself Tuesday while Antti Raanta and Kochetkov split the other. Brind'Amour also stated that Martin was an option to play Wednesday, but the plan was definitely to play one of either Wednesday (Boston) or Thursday (New Jersey). "I trust our goalie coach," Brind'Amour said. "Paul [Schonfelder] is the guy who makes all those decisions really for the most part on who goes in net." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Practice Notes * undefined * undefined Michael Bunting - Sebastian Aho - Teuvo Teravainen Jordan Martinook - Jordan Staal - Seth Jarvis Stefan Noesen - Jack Drury - Martin Necas Brendan Lemieux - Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Jesper Fast Jaccob Slavin - Brent Burns Brady Skjei - Brett Pesce Dmitry Orlov - Jalen Chatfield * undefined PP1 - Brent Burns, Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, Michael Bunting, Seth Jarvis PP2 - Brady Skjei, Martin Necas, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Jack Drury, Stefan Noesen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recent Articles Jordan Staal, Sebastian Aho and Rod Brind'Amour on Loss to Wild: 'We just couldn't finish' [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/carolina-hurricanes/news/jordan-staal-sebastian-aho-and-rod-brindamour-on-loss-to-wild-we-just-couldnt-finish] Mental Errors, Even-Strength Scoring and The Svechnikov Void: Three Takeaways from Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 Loss to Minnesota Wild [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/carolina-hurricanes/analysis/mental-errors-even-strength-scoring-and-the-svechnikov-void-three-takeaways-from-carolina-hurricanes-5-2-loss-to-minnesota-wild] Carolina Hurricanes Goalie Roundup: Yaniv Perets Reassigned to ECHL, Pyotr Kochetkov Returns to Practice, and Spencer Martin Arrives in Raleigh [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/carolina-hurricanes/news/carolina-hurricanes-goalie-roundup-yaniv-perets-reassigned-to-echl-pyotr-kochetkov-returns-to-practice-and-spencer-martin-arrives-in-raleigh]
