Veteran forward was on ice early in practice on Monday. Andreas Athanasiou figures to be out longer. Blackhawks with gym-only day on Tuesday.

Blackhawks forward Taylor Hall, who suffered an apparent lower-body injury late in Chicago's 5-3 win at Tampa Bay on Thursday, probably won't be sidelined much longer.

Hall sat out Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Panthers in Sunrise, Florida, but was on the ice before full-team drills of the Blackhawks' practice at the Fifth Third Arena on Monday. The team will have a gym-only day on Tuesday before skating again on Wednesday.

Coach Luke Richardson hopes Hall, the 2017-18 Hart Trophy winner, will be able to participate fully.

"We'll see how it goes from there," Richardson said.

Chicago's next game is on Thursday against the Lightning at the United Center.

Hall was hurt in Tampa in a collision with Michael Eyssimont along the boards and hobbled off the ice favoring one leg.

The forward, who turns 32 on Tuesday, missed four games earlier with shoulder injury suffered on hit by Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo in Boston during the Blackhawks second game of the season.

Hall has two goals and two assists in eight games. The NHL's top overall draft pick in 2010, came to Chicago in a trade with Boston on June 26 to help provide a veteran presence to a rebuilding team. The Hawks then selected center Connor Bedard first overall in the 2023 draft on June 28.

The solidly-built 6-1, 210-pound Hall started the season as a left winger on Bedard's line.

Updates on Athanasiou, Tinordi and Blackwell

Richardson didn't confirm the diagnosis of Hall's injury, or one to forward Andreas Athanasiou, who also was hurt against the Lightning. Athanasiou will be out longer than Hall.

Richardson termed the speedy forward's condition "week-to-week," although the team had not yet placed him on injured reserve.

Rugged defenseman Jarred Tinordi went on IR after suffering an oblique injury in the game against the Lightning, allowing the Blackhawks to recall defenseman Isaak Phillips from AHL Rockford.

Forward Colin Blackwell, out since March following sports hernia surgery, has been practicing with the team.

"He is getting better and I think he's going to get checked out soon," Richardson said. "We're waiting for him to make that next, final step. He's starting to look good in practice, so that's a good sign."
