Following Thursday's 6-3 win over the New York Rangers, the Colorado Avalanche have made history, becoming just the fourth team every to have one or less regulation losses through the first 20 games of the regular season.
They join the 2012-2013 Chicago Blackhawks (17-0-3), 1979-1980 Philadelphia Flyers (16-1-3) and 1927-1928 Montréal Maroons (15-1-4) as the only teams to accomplish the feat.
All three teams ended up going to the Stanley Cup, but the Blackhawks wound up being the only ones to take it home.
The Avalanche have been dominant on both ends of the ice so far. They lead the league in 4.20 goals per game, almost a full goal ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes, who rank second with 3.60. Led by their elite defensive core and strong goalie play by Scott Wedgewood, they are also only allowing 2.40 goals per game.
Is Colorado destined for another trip to the Stanley Cup Finals?
