Colorado's middle six forward returned from injury and said the next games are crucial down the stretch to the playoffs.

Colorado Avalanche forward Logan O'Connor was out with a lower-body injury for a couple games but returned to the overtime loss against the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs with the same energy before he was injured.

"I think the first game back is always a little more challenging, a lot more comfortable last game. I think there's a couple of areas we can improve on and capitalize on our chances a little bit more. Obviously a lot of high talent there," O'Connor said. "But it's unfortunate we didn't get the win. I think, you know, there's a couple areas we can improve on and try and capitalize on some of our chances a little bit more."

The 25-year-old forward is rejuvenated and had the highest number of shots on goal with four in the disappointing loss to Leafs on Saturday.

"Every game you can learn from your mistakes and details and I think this time of year, just over 20 games left, it's gonna get tighter out there. It's gonna get more challenging to score goals," O'Connor said. "So it's trying to find a way as a team to generate those chances and make it hard on the goaltenders — get to the net front hard and Toronto is obviously a really good team. So it was too bad we couldn't come out with the two points there. But I think we can still build off some of those things rolling into Dallas, obviously — big divisional matchup. We're right there in the standings with them and at the end of the season, it's gonna come down to you know, a couple points here or there probably so these games are massive for us."

The energy and chemistry is apparent for O'Connor on a line with Ross Colton and Miles Wood. That line combined for nine SOG against the Leafs which made the loss even more frustrating.

The Avs face off against the Stars at 7:30 MT on Tuesday at Ball Arena.
