The Colorado Avalanche have acquired San Jose Sharks No. 1 goalie Mackenzie Blackwood.
Along with Blackwood, the Avalanche received a draft pick in 2027 and forward Givani Smith from San Jose. Colorado sent Alexandar Georgiev, Nikolai Kovalenko, and two draft picks to complete the deal. The Avalanche will retain 14% of Georgiev's contract as part of the deal.
Despite the Sharks' 10-15-5 record, Blackwood has been spectacular. He has a .911 save percentage and a 3.00 GAA. He has a 6-9-3 record across 19 games, with 17 starts. After this season, Blackwood will be an unrestricted free agent.
The Avalanche have wholly reworked their goalie duo and now have a potential No. 1 goalie in Blackwood to help them reclaim a playoff spot. Blackwood and fellow newly acquired goalie Scott Wedgewood were teammates with Miles Wood on the New Jersey Devils.
